Omerus wæs      east mid Crecum
on ðæm leodscipe      leoða cræftgast,
Firgilies      freond and lareow,
þæm mæran sceope      magistra betst.

þære sunnan wlite      swiðe herede,
æðelo cræftas      oft and gelome
leoðum and spellum      leodum reahte.
Ne mæg hio þeah gescinan,      þeah hio sie scir and beorht,
